They are based upon the "Guidelines for the Assessment of General Damages in Personal Injury Cases by the Judicial Studies Board" which is published by Oxford University Press.

Head Injuries

Minor head injuries with mininal damage and full recovery - £1,250 - £7,000

Moderate injuries involving some degree of temporary brain damage but where injuries can be resolved - £4,500 - £11,000

Moderate injuries also incorporating ongoing psychological changes, where changes may remain unresolved - £8,000 - £23,500

Severe, disabling or permanent brain damage - £40,000+

Neck Injuries

Minor injuries with full recovery expected from within a few weeks to one year - £1,000 - £2,250

Minor injuries with recovery time of one year to two years - £2,500 - £4,250

Lower moderate injuries with slight ongoing symptoms - £4,250 - £7,750

High moderate injuries with recurring ongoing symptoms - £7,500 - £13,750

Severe injuries where full recovery will be delayed or will remain unresolved - £14,500+

Shoulder Injuries

Minor injuries, ie soft tissue or ligament damage where full recovery will be complete within one year - £1,000 - £2,500

Minor injuries as before, but where full recovery complete in one to two years - £2,500 - £4,500

Moderate injuries, ie frozen shoulder, dislocation - usual recovery within two years - £4,250 - £7,000

Fracture of shoulder - £2,750 - £6,500

Severe injuries, ie damage to brachial plexus, with some degree of permanent disability - £10,500 - £26,500+

Back Injuries

Minor injuries, ie sprains or strains, up to two years recovery time - £1,000 to £4,250

Minor injuries, ie soft tissue damage, with compete recovery within two to five years - £4,250 - £7,500

Moderate frequently encountered injuries - £6,750 - £15,250

Moderate injuries , ie lumbar fractures, where they may be some residual disability - £15,250 - £21,500

Severe injuries incorporating extended recovery time and loss of function - £21,500+

Arm Injuries

Minor injuries, where there is no permanent damage and fast recovery - £1,000 to £2,500

Simple fractures, soft tissue injuries where there is a good expected recovery - £3,650 - £10,000

Moderate injuries where recovery is expected, but long disability period - £10,500 - £21,500

Severe, possible permanent disablement and/or loss of use of limb - £21,500+

Elbow Injuries

Minor injuries, ie simple fractures with no permanent damage or loss of function - £1,000 up to £7,000*
* This level of compensation would only be awarded in situations where there was an extensive recovery period

Moderate injuries, where some degree of impairment remains - £8,750 to £17,500

Severe injuries, causing a degree of permanent disability - £21,500 to £30,0000

Pelvis/Hip Injuries

Minor injuries, with limited severity and good recovery expected - £2,150 to £7,000

Replacement Hip / arthroplasty - £6,750 to £14,750

Moderate Injuries with extended recovery time but no major permanent disability - £14,750 to £21,500

Severe injury, incorporating some degree of permanent disability - £23,000+

Wrist Injuries

Minor fractures where there is minimal displacement - £2,000 to £2,500

Colles Fracture - up to £4,500

Moderate injuries, some permanent persisting disability - £6,750 to £13,500

Moderate injuries, significant permanent disability - £13,500 to £21,500

Severe injuries incorporating complete loss of movement / use - £26,500 to £33,500 +

Hand/Finger Injuries

Minor injuries, ie simple fracture, where recovery is complete within six months - £1,000 to £2,600

Moderate, eg crush damage, soft tissue injury or penetrating wounds - £3,500 to £7,250

Moderate injury, where surgery has failed and some disability remains - £7,500 to £20,000

Fracture of thumb - £5,000 to £6,500

Partial Loss of Thumb - £6,000 to £10,000

Loss of Index Finger - £10,000+

Loss of Thumb - £19,500 to £30,000

Severe Fractures, leading to impairment of grip - up to £20,000

Leg Injuries

Simple fracture tibia or fibula and soft tissue damage - £1,000 to £5,000

Moderate injury, ie fracture of femur - £5,000 - £7,750

Moderate injury, where incomplete recovery will leave some pain/limited mobility - £10,000 to £15,250

Moderate injuries - multiple fractures - £15,250 to £21,500

Severe injury with prolonged treatment and/or lengthy period of non weightbearing and where arthritus may ensue - £21,0000 to £30,000

Severe injury, permanent disability - £30,000 to £46,500

Knee Injuries

Minor injuries, such as brusing or twisting of ligaments, tendons or muscle, where complete recovery is expected - up to £3,250

Moderate injuries, torn cartiledge, dislocation, acceleration of existing symptoms (arthritus)or mild future disability - £3,250 - £14,750

Severe injuries, anthroplasty or serious with permanent disablement usually between £38,000 and £51,000

Ankle Injuries

Achilles Tendon Injury (temporarily disabling)
Minor - eventual complete recovery - £4,000 - £5,000
Moderate, extended period of non weightbearing and recovery - £8,000 - £10,000
Severe rupture with limited movement, residual scarring and/or unlikely to improve considerably - £13,500 - £16,500
Total loss of use - £20,000+

Minor foot injury ie ruptured ligaments, fractured metatarsals, etc - up to £7,500

Moderate injury, serious fractures leading to permanent deformity with continuing symptoms - £7,500 to £13,750

Severe, leading to grevious disfigurement and/or loss or partial loss of use - £13,750 - £21,500
